I was originally trained as a boat builder in San Rafael, Ca. learning the art of fine wood working, design, development, and boat construction; completing a 5 year apprenticeship with W.C. Garvey. I continued as a journeyman boat builder in New Zealand, furthering my education in boat design and construction.
I returned to the United States in the mid 1970’s, finding work building residential homes in Berkeley, Ca. Working my way up to foreman in charge of the Finish carpentry crew.
In 1978, I opened “Pratt custom cabinets and general construction”, in Davis, Ca. a cabinet shop and general construction business which I owned and operated until 1991. The premise of this company was to offer the customer a complete package for all aspects of construction.
In 1979, the company acquired a large commercial cabinet contract and subsequently added commercial remodels to our scope of work.
In 1991, we closed the cabinet side of the business and focused on home construction, remodel and repair. We also did maintenance and repair on rental houses and apartments. In this capacity, we were involved in multiple aspects of general construction.
My two sons started working with me in 1997, and subsequently in 2002; the company became a family operation with my two sons officially joining the business.
In recent years we have built a number of custom homes, and remodels, but our primary focus has been on finish work with some framing of single family homes.
We have done work for such builders as Morrison Homes, Lafferty Homes, Tim Terry Developments, New Faze Developments, RND Construction, Meritage Homes, Dolan’s lumber, DAS homes, Southern California investments, Tim Lewis Homes, Griffin Industries and many others.
